My name is Krishan Bir Chaudhary. I am among the Monsanto Tribunal witnesses, as well as the chairman of Bharat Krishak Samaj, India’s largest farmer organization.
First the BT cotton is totally a fiasco, it was a fraud done by Monsanto with Indian farmers. Second, the farmers are committing suicide due to the introduction of BT Cotton. After implementation of globalization policies and implementation BT cotton seeds, more than 300,000 farmers have committed suicide in India as per the government documents due to debt from failure of the BT cotton seeds. Dr. Vandana Shiva and me helped submit the petition in the National Human Rights Commission in India that money collected by Monsanto, more than 12,000 crores in Indian currency, should be recovered and should be distributed to those families who are the sufferers from these illegal collections of royalties by Monsanto. We also asked of our government that there should be a probe and it should be stopped – Monsanto should have to leave India. We request with the global community that this should not be committed again and again especially as small farmers commit suicide due to the corporation’s policies. They are bloodsuckers of poor farmers all over the world.
